GROWTH, REPRODUCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF BRISTISH SHORTHAIR CATS

Abstract

This paper presents the results of research on morphological behavior, growth and reproductive characteristics of British shorthair cats raised at some pet breeding departments in Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong province. Research showed that British short-haired cats raised in Binh Duong have the characteristics of foreign cats. They were well adapted to the local climate and were easy to raise. Cats growed rapidly in the first 2 months and slow down in the 3rd month. The average weight of newborn males reached 102 grams, after 3 months increased to 1,477 grams. Newborn females weigh average was 97 grams, increasing to 1,341 grams at 3 months. In 3-month-old cats, the body length reached 31-32cm; male bust circumference was 23.36cm, female bust circumference was 21.71cm. The average tail length was 18 cm. The average gestation period was 60.6 days. The average number of heads per litter was 4.6, the average newborn weight was 95.6 grams. The 7-day survival rate was 76.1%.
