SOCIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE XTIENG IN BINH PHUOC

Abstract

Xtieng is an ethnic group that has lived for a long time in the Southeast of Vietnam, and the largest number of Xtieng is in Binh Phuoc province. The Xtieng has many groups, but the most prominent is the two groups, Bu Lo and Bu Deh, residing in two different areas, and different social organization. That creates diverse nuances in the society of the Xtieng in Binh Phuoc province. However, that diversity has also changed as the change of family structure, lineage, and social management; which is caused by the socio-economic changes of Binh Phuoc province, as well as the impact of cultural exchange, acculturation, and appearance of Catholic, Protestant in the Xtieng community over the past few decades.
