USING SMARTPHONES IN ENGLISH CLASS FOR NON-ENGLISH MAJOR STUDENTS AT VAN LANG UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The article focuses on studying students' attitudes towards using smartphones in English class and recommending for optimization of using smartphones. The data in this article were surveyed from 70 freshmen of Van Lang University. We used two methods of data collection: in-depth interviews with 21 students and student observation were conducted by instructors during their teaching process. The results showed that most of the surveyed students responded positively to using smartphones and they affirmed that smartphones are effective, convenient and useful tools in supporting students to perform class activities
