Abstract

SOME CONTEMPORARY THEORIES OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES

 

In the last decades of the twentieth century, religions have been recovered, developed in many countries over the world with new nuances. The rise of traditional religion, the emergence of new religious movements changed the religious landscape requires a new view on religion in modern society. The traditional theories, including the secularization theory, have not met the demand, even they was strongly criticized for its prediction that religions will be disappeared in modern society. Researchers have recognized the limitations of the secularization theory and sought new theories for study in the context of contemporary society. It led to the emergence of some contemporary religious research theories. This article presents some contemporary theories of religious studies such as religious entity theory, religious diversity theory, secularization theory, and religious market theory.
