The role of armed forces during th e const ruction process underthe Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945)

Abstract

     Hue ancient capital under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) was a thriving, magnificent, fully
functional central urban. The armed forces made a significant contribution to giving Hue a new
look. As written in history, soldiers had worked as builders in big building sites, ranging from the
imperial citadel and capital city to office areas, temples, and mausoleums in addition to fighting,
defending and extending the nation’s borders, and upholding security and order throughout the
nation’s regions.
      Based on the study of documentary sources, the authors used research and comparison
methods to analyze and synthesize, thereby providing remarks and evaluations on the role of
armed forces under the Nguyen Dynasty during the construction process of Hue ancient capital.
