ABSTRACT
PEOPLE’S DIPLOMACY - “SOFT POWER” IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND VIETNAM’S REALITY TODAY
In the history of international relations, the countries conduct diplomatic activities in many different forms, but grouped into two main categories: state diplomacy (also known as traditional diplomacy) and people’s diplomacy (also known as people-to-people diplomacy). In the current globalization context, people’s diplomacy is not only an ordinary means of diplomacy but can also be seen as a “soft power” in international relations. People’s diplomacy has a strong impact on many countries’s diplomacy, including Vietnam. In the context that our country is expanding its integration, multilateralism and diversification in international relations, people’s diplomacy along with the foreign policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State are the “tripod” of Vietnam’s foreign policy. This article focuses on presenting the role of people’s diplomacy in international relations and the practice of applying the people’s diplomacy in Vietnam in the current context.
