Abstract

During the process of advancing to the South, family imprints over Phú Xuân culture of the Nguyễn Lords have been expressed through the roles of various groups: Reclaiming families; martial and studious families and craft families.
Each traditional family group has its own role and contribution: Reclaiming families created sustainability in the cohesion of communities, clans and families during the extension to the South.
Many generations of martial and studious families had shoulder to shoulder served the Nguyễn Lords in Cochinchina (Đàng Trong), they were not only famous in Phú Xuân main palace but also in Gia Định - An Giang areas in contributing human and material human resources to the South.
The group of craft families not only created a system of traditional craft villages around Huế but also produced a wide range of commodity products. Especially, they helped to affirm the major role of Phú Xuân and provided a considerable amount of goods, gradually turning Phú Xuân into the political and economic center of Cochinchina (Đàng Trong).
