A character “is a specific person depicted in a literary work”. Characters have a special important role, determining the success of the work. The basic function of literary characters is to generalize human personality, lead readers into different environments of life and express the writer’s artistic conception and aesthetic ideals about people. Any literary genre has the participation of literary characters. Characters in novels have characteristics that are different from those in other literary genres. In traditional novels, characters are often depicted in a process, going through life’s events. Many large-scale novels are a complete picture of the life and fate of one or more characters, from birth to death. In an effort to renovate the art of building novel characters, after Innovation, many writers have built character types with characteristics that are different from those of traditional novels. There are types of characters that are impersonal, non-psychological, characters that are made “thin” or characters that are just “shadows”, signs and symbols. The change in the method of character description has profoundly influenced the content of reflection and the thought depth of contemporary novels.
