Abstract

A total of 120 cattle farms (with 684 cows), in An Thanh Thuy and Binh Ninh communes, Cho Gao district and Vinh Huu and Long Vinh communes, Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province were directly interviewed through questionnaires. There were 67 uterus fluid samples from the
estrus cows suffering with metritis collected by cytobrush for bacteria isolation, classification and testing antibiotic susceptibility. Thirty metritis cows were selected for experimental treatment with two different treatment regimens (A and B). The studied result showed that the infection rate of cow with metritis in the investigated areas was 9.8%, the highest incidence was registered in Vinh Huu commune (11.11%). The litter and breed of cows presented a significant effect on this incidence, the cows at the 3rd litter and
BBB hybrid cows infected with the highest metritis rate (19.47% and 41.18%, respectively). Two common bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp.) were identified from the uterus fluid samples of cows suffering with metritis, accounting for the highest rate (73.13% and 77.61%, respectively). These bacteria species were susceptible with florphenicol and
norfloxacin. 100% of cows were recovered from the two A and B treatment regimens, the pregnancy rate of cows from the A and B treatment regimens were 80.00% and 66.67%, respectively. The treatment cost of the A treatment regimen (451.0002 ± 69.4 000 dong/15 cows) was lower than that of the B treatment regimen (577.300 ± 71.700 dong/15 cows)
