Abstract

The result of comprehensive examination for the gastrointestinal tract of 1325 pigs in 5 districts of Bac Giang province (Viet Yen, Hiep Hoa, Lang Giang, Yen Dung, Son Dong) showed that the mean infection rate of pig with Strongyloides ransomi was 36.98%, the mean infection intensity was from 4 to 1026 worms per pig. At the same time, fecal samples of 4920 pigs were tested for worm by Fülleborn method and the infection intensity was determined by Mc Master counting chamber. As a result, there were 2005 pigs infected with Strongyloides ransomi, the infection rate was 40.75%, the infection rate with mild and moderate level was 47.58% and 28.28%. The infection rate with heavy and very heavy level was lower. The pigs under 2 months old were infected with the high rate and severity intensity. The infection rate of pigs with Strongyloides ransomi in the summer and autumn was significantly higher than in the winter. The pigs were raised by traditional methods infected with Strongyloides ransomi with the highest rate (61.55%). In contrast, the lowest infection rate of pigs was raised by industrial methods (19.83%).
Strongyloides ransomi’s eggs and larvae distributed in the barn background, sewage pits and gardens. However, the swine barn background was contaminated with the worm eggs and larvae, which was significantly higher than the other places.
