Abstract

A study was carried out with two products derived from the effective micro-organisms (EM and YM) to spray onto the surface of the litters (coconut fibre and droppings) in 16 small scale poultry farms (quail and black-bone silky bird farms) in Cho Gao district, Tien Giang province. The studied results showed that after 3 days (for quail farms) and 7 days (for black-bone silky bird farms) using (EM and YM) to spray onto the litters, NH3 concentration as well as total aerobic plate count (APC) inside the farm reduced significantly (P<0,05). At the storage places, the concentration of NH3 emitted from the bags sprayed with EM and YM was significantly lower than that of the control group; particularly, the number of coliforms in the litters sprayed with EM and YM and composted in the rattan baskets (aerobic composting) was lower than that of the anaerobic composting in the closed bags (P<0,05). In conclusion, spraying EM and YM on litter’s surfaces reduced pollution of the environment in inside and outside of the poultry farms. It contributes to protect the community and domestic animal health.
