Assessment of some reproductive indexes of Swiss albino mice in several laboratory animal centers in Ha Noi City

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine body weight gain (BWG) of Swiss albino mice at the mouse groups from 8 to 14 weeks of age and some its reproductive indexes in several laboratory animal centers in Ha Noi City. The studied result showed that body weight gain of the male mice from 8 to 10 weeks of age was higher than that of the female mice. After the 10th week of age, the BWG rate of the male and female mice groups was equal. In the same age group, the body weight of the male mice was higher than that of the female mice. The female mice with weight of 40g having the pregnant rate was higher than that of the smaller ones. The average gestation duration of the first to the third litter was 20.06 days. This index was not different among the litters. But, the gestation rate, the number of infant mouse, the number of weaning mouse in the first and the third litter were lower than that of the second litter. These results can be applied in management and reproduction of mice at the laboratory animal centers in Ha Noi City.
