US – Cuba Relations during 1991-2008 Period

Abstract

The United States (US) - Cuba relations between 1991 and 2008 are characterised by the former’s sanctions on the latter and the latter's fight against sanctions of the former. The relations have many aspects, the most outstanding of which are the fields of politics, security, diplomacy and economics. The main purpose of the United States is to change the political regime in Cuba into what it calls democracy. But, in face of the measures and policies imposed by the US, Cuba has still been able to protect its revolutionary achievements and staunchly following the path of socialism. The changes in the US - Cuba relations, though not many, did lay certain grounds for greater changes in the relations while President B.Obama was in power.
