  • NGUYỄN VŨ HOÀNG

Abstract

In the American society today, the issue of racial prejudice is frequently mentioned not only in academia but also in everyday life. Vietnamese Americans in the city of New Orleans are known to the American media for the community recovery after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Arriving after 1975, the community of Vietnamese Americans there has grown from approx.1,000 to approx.15,000 people. Based on the theories of white supremacy and model minorities, the article uses the snowball sampling method in fieldwork and ethnographic materials in the city to indicate that the Vietnamese Americans are sometimes inclined towards the white supremacy ideology.
