Abstract

After the country's reunification in 1975, the high-yield three-crop rice cultivation system appeared the first time, based on the already existing high-yield intensive farming two-crop system, the one-crop (winter crop) system, and the deep-water and floating rice cultivation. Additionally, old systems of cultivating merely rice were shifted to rice cultivation combined with aquaculture, with other crops, or partially to planting fruit trees. The goal of developing rice cultivation to ensure food security was changed into producing rice for export and diversifying agricultural production to increase the people's income. In addition to infrastructure and science and technology investments, policy renovation plays an important role in developing rice production and agriculture in the Mekong Delta
