Malnutrition in children under 5 years old at 3 communities Kim Dong district, Hung Yen in 2023
Abstract
Objective: Malnutrition in children under 5 years of age refers to a condition in which the body is not adequately supplied with essential nutrients, adversely affecting vital functions, physical growth, and cognitive development. Results: The study results show that stunting is the most prevalent form of malnutrition (17.2%), followed by wasting (7.6%) and underweight (4.8%). Factors associated with stunting in children under 5 include: recent poor appetite in the past 3 months (OR = 2.7; 95% CI: 1.6–4.6); diarrhea in the past 3 months (OR = 3.3; 95% CI: 1.3–7.9); history of inpatient hospitalization (OR = 1.7; 95% CI: 1.1–2.8); micronutrient supplementation in the past 3 months (OR = 6.3; 95% CI: 1.3–28.5); and per capita income below 4 million VND/month (OR = 2.9; 95% CI: 1.8–2.7).
