Abstract

The article outlines the image of pigs in Korean and Vietnamese proverbs from an agricultural perspective. Specifically, the authors utilize various methods such as descriptive research, qualitative analysis, and comparison to clarify pigs‘ features, characteristics, their economic benefits as well as Korean and Vietnamese experience in pig farming. The results indicate that there are numerous similarities between the two countries in terms of breeding techniques, knowledge of pigs or folk taboo in pig husbandry. Several differences are recorded in the fact that Koreans pay special attention to barns, disease prevention and treatment for pigs, while Vietnamese people pay much attention to their characteristics, food and economic values. This comparison demonstrates the two nations‘ common features, characteristics in wet rice culture, their world view, as well as their concepts of values.
