Impacts of resettlement on youth lifestyles in the central coastal area: A case study from Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province

Abstract

Resettlement for the construction of Dung Quat economic zone has affected the lifestyle of the coastal youth in Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province. Under the impact of resettlement, the youth’s geographical space and marriage options have expanded. For women, they participate more in economic and social activities. Young people have a voice, is heard and respected in the family and community. In addition, the behavioral relationship of the community towards youth is seen to be more open and humane. Since then, the lifestyle of young people in the new residence has changed much more positively than the old one. The new lifestyle is both an opportunity for young people to adapt, develop and be a challenge that can undermine good traditional values. Therefore, in building and implementing resettlement projects, it is necessary to pay more attention to youth policies.
