Abstract

After 1954, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) faced several challenges in terms of healthcare. Medical facilities and equipment were inadequate and outdated. The medical staff was insufficient regarding both number and knowledge. Facing these difficulties, in addition to the efforts of the Government, the health sector of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam has received the support and help of socialist countries, including the Soviet Union. The article focuses on analysing the process of Soviet assistance in the medical field for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in the period 1954-1975, in order to show our respect gratitude and for the help from the government and people of the Soviet Union. We also emphasize the appropriateness of the Vietnam Communist Party’s foreign policies in the process of calling for international assistance and finally point out noteworthy lessons applicable to contemporary issues in international relations.
