Abstract

Like the previous monarchical dynasties, the Le - Trinh Dynasty was very interested in the education and Confucian examination, making it one of the important methods to train and select talents for the feudal government. Therefore, provincial examinations (Thi Hương) and national examimations (thi Hoi, thi Dinh) under the Le – Trinh Dynasty were regularly held to select Doctors; while other kind of examinations such as Dong Cac, Hoanh Tu, Si vong, Che khoa, An khoa... were also opened to recruit talents for the state apparatus. To encourage people who pass those exams by both material and spiritual life, the Le - Trinh dynasty implemented various remuneration regimes, such as calling the name, naming on the yellow board, appointment of officials, and grants of wages. Thanks to that, the Confucian scholars of the Lê-Trịnh Dynasty made important contributions to the sustainable development of the nation in the two centuries XVII and XVIII.
