Population ageing in Vietnam and its posed issues

Abstract

Population ageing – a global issue that appears in almost every country in the world – greatly affects various dimensions of the socio-economic development in many countries. Not outside of this trend, Vietnam is also experiencing a rapid increase in both the number and proportion of elderly people in the population structure, creating many problems for the nation’s economic growth. This paper focuses on anlyzing the current situtation of population aging in Vietnam, identifying the challenges of population aging for the country’s socio-economic development. Based on that reality and experiences from countries worldwide,
the author proposes some policy suggestions for the Vietnamese government to adapt and deal with the population ageing phenomenon that is currently taking place rapidly.
