Abstract

Households’ livelihoods are particularly vulnerable to the increased impacts of climate change. Assessment of livelihood vulnerability to climate change impacts will help to identify suitable adaptive livelihood strategies that balance risks and opportunities to allow continued development while ensuring adaptive capacity to climate shocks. This article assesses the vulnerability of 6 types of coastal livelihoods on the North Central Coast. Fisheries’ livelihood is the most vulnerable to climate change. Based on the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) of components that reflect adaptation capacity, exposure and sensitivity to climate disasters, the paper identifies the most vulnerable aspects of each livelihood activity and proposes solutions for enhancing the adaptive capacity of livelihoods in the context of current climate change in the North Central Coast
