Abstract

The leaves of Boehmeria nivea L. were extracted by ultrasonic with ethanol 50% and subsequently fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and n-butanol (n-BuOH) solvents. The extract and fractions were evaluated antioxidant and the xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activities in vitro. The results have shown that n-BuOH fraction had the strongest antioxidant effect (IC50: 81,58 µg/mL), followed by EtOH extract (IC50: 112,98 µg/mL) and EtOAc fraction (IC50: 187,86 µg/mL) and the lowest was n-hexan fraction (IC50: 240,19 µg/mL). Moreover, n-BuOH fraction extract also had the strongest XO enzyme inhibitory activity (IC50: 162,81 g/mL), followed the EtOH extract (IC50: 261,91 µg/mL) and EtOAc fraction (IC50: 279,83 µg/mL); and the lowest was n-hexane fraction (IC50: 455,53 g/mL).
