Abstract

In this study, activated color contained in textile wastewater is treated by the use of Sulfate iron only, zeolite only and a mixture of sulfate iron and zeolite in coagulation-flocculation processes. This study used Sunzol Black B (SBB) 150%, Sulfix Red S3B (SRS) 100% to make artificial wastewater with various concentrations. The results show that among used coagulants, mixture of sulfate iron and zeolite gave the highest efficiency in removal of color and COD from textile wastewater, namely, color declined from  1000-3000 Pt-Co to 50-150 Pt-Co in corresponding with 90-95% in removal efficiency of color, the COD removal efficiency reached 70-72%. The optimal conditions for removal of color and COD in this study obtained at pH 12, turbulant rate of 80 rpm, contact time of 5 minutes, dose of iron sulfate of 800 mg/L and zeolite with 600 mg/L.
