Online Teaching and Learning with Zoom: Problems and Solutions – A case study at Faculty of English Language Studies, Hanoi University of Business and Technology

Abstract

Online teaching and learning has been adopted at Hanoi University of Business and Technology (HUBT) as a solution in the time of Covid-19 pandemic. On the one hand, it has been considered to be effective to keep teaching and learning uninterrupted; on the other hand, it shows a number of problems. This research paper reports a case study conducted at Faculty of English Language Studies, HUBT which describes experiences and views of EFL teachers and English majored students towards online teaching and learning via the use of an online tool, Zoom. The study takes a quantitative and qualitative approach to understand students’ and teachers’ evaluation on the online teaching and learning, factors causing challenges in the
online training, and gives recommendations for effective utilization of information technology in English language teaching and learning.
