Abstract

Caricature, a genre of visual arts, is closely associated with journalism. It is a unique form of communication that expresses messages through visual language. The use of caricatures has several effects, such as vividly conveying information, educating the public about knowledge and aesthetic awareness, providing entertainment value, depicting national identity through drawing, presenting a lively historical picture, reflecting social development, and enhancing the attractiveness of the content and form of newspapers. As an illustration, caricatures are employed to enhance the visual aspect of literary works (prose, poetry, etc.) and journalistic pieces (editorials, commentaries, etc.) to attract readers' attention. However, independent caricatures in Vietnam have yet to be widely recognized and utilized due to the lack of assurance in terms of content, form, and creative method of a journalistic piece. Tuổi trẻ Cười is one of the few newspapers in Vietnam that effectively fulfills the roles and functions of caricatures in journalism
