Abstract

Shrimp shell dust generated from peeling machine at dried shrimp processing facilities
in Tra Vinh province causes environmental pollution. The dust needs to be treated by filtration.
In this study, some thermophysical properties of shrimp shell dust that affect the calculation
and the performance of the dust collection equipment were determined. Shrimp shell powder
has an average moisture content of 13%, an average density of 1100kg/m3
, and over 89% of
the powder has sizes between 37µm and 125µm. A cyclone has been designed and fabricated
to investigate the ability of shrimp shell dust collection. The results show that for the amount
of dust generated by 1 - 3 shrimp shell crushers (23 - 69g/batch) and the wind speed in the
range from 15.56 - 21.11m/s, the cyclone can completely Shrimp dust can be obtained with
the yield from 93.5 to 97.4%. To save energy for the dust collection system, the air flow
velocity into the cyclone should be between 17 - 19m/s. At this velocity, the settling efficiency
will be between 94.6% - 96.7% and the pressure loss will be between 1178 - 1330Pa.
