AN INTEGRATED APPROACHES USING DELMIA IN DESIGNING MECHATRONIC PRODUCT

Abstract

The need to simultaneously consider the aspects of control, electrical, and
mechanical engineering throughout the development process of mechatronic
products has been stated in the German national standard, specifically VDI 2206.
In this standard, VDI 2206 also provides a useful framework for the design of
mechatronic systems. However, the standard does not specifically address the
implementation of products that use PLC control modules and a tool platform for
application. This paper describes the application of VDI 2206 and additional
customization to the development of mechatronic products with programmable
logic controllers (PLCs). In this study, the modules of the process, the relevant
tools, and the flow of interdisciplinary data are clearly described. The relevance in
the system integration process is verified by an industrial study for an automatic
shirt folding system. The integrated approach methodology developed in the
paper is the basis for an efficient development process applicable to mechatronic
products controlled by PLCs.
