Abstract

Smart actuators, such as piezoelectric and magnetostrictive actuator have
been widely used for precise positioning control. However, the smart actuators
still demonstrate the hysteresis phenomenon especially in the magnetostrictive
materials. This paper presents an experimental method to compensate hysteresis
in the magnetostrictive inkjet printhead. This method is performed by using RC
circuit due to the charging and discharging of capacitor adapting a current input
signal. The experiment is conducted with frequencies of 5Hz, which is primarily
used for operating inkjet printhead. From the experimental results, the optimal
capacitance value at 5Hz is found at 335μF. The experimental method is useful
and effective to reduce hysteresis in the magnetostrictive inkjet printhead.
