TESTING SOME EDGE DETECTION METHODS IN INTERPRETING AEROMAGNETIC DATA OF THE PHAN RANG AREA

Abstract

Determining the horizontal boundaries of geological structures is an
important task in magnetic data interpretation. Various methods for detecting
the geological boundaries have been proposed. These methods are generally
constructed based on derivatives of the magnetic anomaly. This study presents a
comparative study of the effectiveness of several methods such as the total
horizontal gradient, analytic signal amplitude, horizontal tilt angle, and
enhanced horizontal gradient amplitude. The applicability of each method was
tested on synthetic magnetic data and real magnetic data collected at Phan Rang
area. The result shows that the use of the enhanced horizontal gradient
amplitude can display the boundaries more clearly and precisely compared to
other methods. In addition, the result also provides a better understanding of
the subsurface structural features of the Phan Rang area
