Abstract

Nowadays, the development of solar projects in Southern provinces of
Vietnam causes overload of power transmission, then leads to some plants
couldn’t operate at full capacity. Therefore, rooftop solar power projects in
provinces and cities with high electricity demand and hight potential for solar
radiation, are encouraged to reduce power transmission jam. In this paper, we
analyse a case study of a low-income apartment building in Ho Chi Minh City to
assess impacts of rooftop solar on building energy efficiency. Results show the
roof solar modules not only supply electricity but also reduce solar radiation to
the roof. As a result, building cooling load and total energy consumption are
significant reduced. On the other hand, the reduction of solar radiation on the
roof keeps cooling roof surface and improves the thermal comfort of attic space.
