Abstract

Elastic knitted fabric using spandex yarn becomes more and more popular
today. For this type of textile product, the spandex percentage in the fabric is a
very important factor because it determines the structural parameters, the
elongation, the elasticity as well as many other fabric properties. This work was
to study the effect of spandex percentage on some structural parameters and the
elongation of single jersey fabric knitted from polyester yarn. The values of
spandex percentage investigated were 0% (fabric without spandex), 50%
(spandex yarn in alternating courses) and 100% (spandex yarn in every courses).
In the scope of research, the increase in spandex percentage made the density,
the weight and the thickness of fabric all go up. Besides, the fabric elongation at
the same tensile force decreased in both wale and course direction, which
suggested an increase of the fabric elastic modulus.
