IMPROVEMENT IN BODY STRUCTURE OF BUS TO SATISFY ROLLOVER SAFETY BASED

Abstract

To investigate the structural dynamics of the bus body structure in case of
the rollover, dynamic finite element analyses were used using Hypermesh/LsDyna. Simulation results following standard ECE R66 showed that the
crashworthiness characteristics of the bus structure was improved
increasing cross-section, wall-thickness or structural stiffness. However,
increasing cross-section and wall-thickness can lead to the rise in stiffness and
weight of the bus body structure. The deformation of the proposed bus body
structure does not penetrate occupant living space in rollover event and regular
requirements can be met.
