Abstract

Single jersey fabrics have been used commonly because of their flexibility, air
permeability and elasticity. But they are unstable in dimension, specially in fabrics
knitted from wool and cotton yarn. Detergents affect mechanical properties of
knitted fabrics. Using the natural detergents minimizes the environment impact. In
this research we investigated the influence of detergents on dimension stability and
on skew in single jersey fabrics. Three detergents were used, which were Suft liquid
detergent, liquid detergent for wool garment with pH = 7.0 and liquid detergent
extracted from soap-berry. Two kind of investigated single jersey fabrics knitted
from CVC yarn (60% cotton, 40% Polyester). The fabrics have been washed and
dried 3 cycles. The results showed that all fabrics took the dimensional change in
course and wale direction. There was no clear difference from the detergents on the
fabric dimensional change. Liquid detergent extracted from soap-berry most
affected on skew in knitted fabrics but this value was less changed in comparision
to the initial value of the fabric before testing.
