Abstract

Currently, bioethanol is the main alternative fuel for gasoline in spark ignition
engines. However, recently 2.5-dimethylfuran (DMF) has emerged as a promising
alternative fuel source as the performance of DMF synthesis methods from biomass is
improving. The content of the paper will present the results of simulated research to
assess the impact of gasoline-DMF blends with DMF mixing ratios from 20% to 40%
on the economic and technical features of the engine by AVL-Boost in two cases with
and without adjustment of ignition timing. Research results show that engine power
and thermal efficiency tend to decrease according to the DMF ratio in the fuel in the
original case when there is no adjustment of ignition timing. Meanwhile, these
parameters will be significantly improved when the ignition timing is optimal in
accordance with the DMF ratio in the fuel and working modes of engine.
