DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF CUSTOMIZABLE SENSOR NODE FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A SENSOR-NETWORK SIMULATION PLATFORM
Abstract
Sensor networks are now used in almost every field of practice. Simulation of sensor networks is
essential, especially in the design stage. Currently, simulation software for research, design and
application for sensor networks only focuses on communication between nodes in the network. The
energy problem of sensor nodes and the entire network has not been properly developed. Studying the
missing problem needs to consider specifically the energy consumption in each operating state of the
sensor node. This paper presents the design and manufacture of a customizable sensor node that
facilitates measurement of power consumption in different states of the node such as sleep status,
ready status, measurement status and communication status. This will help analyze the differences in
energy consumption between the operating states of the node. This results will be important data in
the process of developing the simulation platform and optimizing energy-related problems for the
sensor network.
