Abstract

Capillary properties of textile products plays an important role in application
of water supply and storage for crops. This paper investigates the effect of the
weft density on the capillary speed of the terry woven (100% cotton) in the
longitudinal and transverse directions. Research results have shown that: The
relationship between capillary speed and horizontal density of the terry woven
samples is nonlinear. Maximum capillary speed in VB3 the pattern has horizontal
density Pn = 220 weft/10cm. Capillary speed of the terry woven in horizontal
direction is larger than in the vertical direction of 3.111 ÷ 6.452%. This should
say that at some point in terms of weft density ((factor closely related to the
radius of capillary tube), the capillary speed of the terry woven sample will reach
the highest value. This result will help the selection of terry woven with good
capillary speed that can be used to supply water for substrate to grow.
