SIMULATION OF DISCHARGE PROPAGATION ON INSULATOR SURFACES UNDER AC VOLTAGE

Abstract

This paper deals with the application of RLC equivalent circuit model in
dynamic simulation of discharge phenomena. Applied voltage in the simulation
model is AC voltage. Parameters of electric arc such as voltage, current, velocity
are instantaneous. The propagation of electric arc is simulated by the successive
development of RLC circuits; values of RLC and parameters of propagation
surface are determined according to different criteria. The described model
allows estimating influence of input parameters such as voltage, surface
resistivity on arc propagation and predicting the voltage causing flashover.
