THE RESEARCH ON THE EFFECTS OF PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS ON THE STUDY RESULTS OF THE STUDENTS OF HANOI UNIVERSITY OF INDUSTRY

Abstract

The paper presents the study of the effects of personal characteristics on the
learning outcomes of the students of Hanoi University of Industry. The research
was done in combination with qualitative and quantitative research. The data
were collected from carrying out surveys of 500 students of different majors and
courses. Research results show that there are two characteristics of individual
students affecting learning outcomes: (i) Learning motivation; (ii) Motivation for
learning. The study also shows that there are differences in the learning
outcomes between students in different majors and courses. However, there is
no difference in academic performance in terms of gender and permanent
residence. Combining the research results and the average value of the
components in the scales, the study has proposed some recommendations to
improve the students’ learning outcomes at Hanoi University of Industry.
