Abstract

Drape characteristics of fabric significantly influence the quality of clothes.
The choice of lining fitting the main fabric affects the drape behavior and
the appearance of fabric. Therefore, investigating the influence of lining to
the drape behavior of the couple patterns can improve the apparel design
and the selection of the lining and structure conforming to the requirements
of aesthetic quality as well as the shape of the garment. This article presents
the effect of three linings on the drape behavior of three main fabrics
commonly used to make dresses, summer clothes and winter clothes. Drape
properties of initial and couple patterns of fabrics were determined using
M213 SDL ATLAS drape-meter according to BS 5058: 1973 standard. The
results indicate that most lining fabrics have an influence on the drape
characteristics of the couple patterns on the experimental fabrics in all three
directions: warp, weft and bias. The difference is demonstrated in the drape
coefficient, the profile and the folding number of the sample. There is a
significant multi-variables correlation between drape coefficients of couple
patterns and linings and main fabrics in warp, weft and bias directions.
