Simulation study of cooling fan control circuit for engines using ECU

  • Nguyễn Thành Bắc

Abstract

Nowadays, new cars use DC motors to drive cooling fans. At the
same time, these cars use ECU controllers for the cooling fans. As a
prerequisite for research on designing and manufacturing engine
cooling fans’ ECUs, the author conducted simulation research on the
circuit of cooling fans’ ECU using Proteus and CodevisionAVR
software. The Proteus software was used to simulate the control
circuits and the CodevisionAVR software was used to write control
programs. In this study, the microcontroller used for ECU was
Atmega16. The results showed that the control circuit and controlling
program were able to control the cooling fan conform to the operating
temperature of the engine, and the control program was able to set the
fan’s control threshold according to the required stable working
temperatures of different types of automobile engines.
