Determining reasonable welding parameters to reduce the width of heat-affected zone in TIG welding of aluminum alloys

Abstract

Thanks to advantages such as light weight, high strength, anticorrosion, good welding properties etc., aluminum alloys are used
in many fields such as manufacturing cars, ships, aircrafts etc.
However, when welding aluminum alloys, the strength is greatly
reduced in heat-affected zone (HAZ), thus leading to the reduction
of structure’s strength. Therefore, when welding aluminum alloys, it
is necessary to reduce the width of heat-affected zone. This paper
introduces the theoretical basis to determine temperature fields in
thin plate welding, which is the basis for determining the width of
heat-affected zone in thin plate welding. From there on, the paper
will move to the study of finding the reasonable welding parameters
(including welding voltage, welding current and welding velocity)
to reduce the width of heat-affected zone in TIG welding of
aluminum alloys.
