Application of BAT algorithm for determining optimum surface roughness in turning of austenitic stainless steel SUS304 on CNC lathe

Abstract

This paper is to study the effect of cutting parameters: cutting speed
(V), feed rate (f), cutting depth (t) on surface roughness when turning
of austenitic stainless steel SUS304 on CNC Lathe from which to find
the cutting parameters to achieve the optimal surface roughness. The
current method mainly selects the technological parameters through
trial and error, the experience of previous studies and the technical
manual of the manufacturer. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a
mathematical model to predict surface roughness based on
experimental results. Nature-Inspired Optimization Algorithms (bat
algorithm) is applied to determine the optimal surface roughness. The
proposed optimization algorithm model based on bat algorithm was
tested experimentally and found that the surface roughness was
predicted to be effective compared to the actual surface roughness.
