Abstract

Ti-6Al-4V alloy is known as difficult-to-cut material due to its low thermal
conductivity, high chemical reactivity with most cutting tools and rapid work
hardening during machining. Therefore, CBN grinding wheel is chosen to operate
this alloy because of its properties, such as extremely high hardness (only after
diamond), high thermal conductivity, extremely high resistance to wearing and
high chemical resistance. In addition, a compatible and special cutting condition is
required to improve machining capacity and quality, and reduce wheel wear during
the surface grinding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy using CBN grinding wheel. The study
presents an overview of grinding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with CBN grinding wheel, a
theoretical basis of grinding Titanium alloy, evaluation of the effect of some
technology parameters on the surface grinding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with CBN
grinding wheel. As a result, we defined the method to study the particle swarm
optimization (PSO) in order to optimize the cutting parameters for the surface
grinding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy using CBN grinding wheel.
