Studying the formation potential of thermoplastic PVC sheets in single point incremental forming (SPIF) method

Abstract

Most of the previous and the current research regarding thermoplastic
treatment focus on closed-mold technologies, such as compression and
injection molding. However, these processes are not suitable for small
production, since they require high tooling investment. Recently,
Single Point Incremental Forming has been used for thermoplastic
sheet forming by using CNC machine.
The previous theoretic and experimental studies for thermoplastic
materials have not yet established models for analyzing the influence
of temperature on the formation potential of these materials. In this
article, the author established an experimental model to consider the
influence of temperature and technological parameters to the PVC
sheet’s formation potential when processed by SPIF.
