INVESTIGATE, DESIGN ANG FABRICATE REDUCED TRANSIENT PHENOMENA APPARATUS FOR CAPACITOR SWITCHING ON DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Abstract

Power quality is an important factor that affects the life time of electrical
devices and product quality, especially the devices within integrated electronic
elements - which is sensitive to the voltage source. Capacitors are usally installed
in distribution network for reactive power compensation, so that transient
phenomena appears frequently during capacitor switching. As a result, the life
time and the quality of product could be reduced due to the this dark side. This
paper presents an application study based on design and fabrication of a reduced
transient phenomena apparatus using pre-inserted resistor for low voltage
capacitor switching. Simulation by EMTP and experimental results showed that
overvoltages were suppressed by using this apparatus which can be therefore
applied widely in Vietnam distribution network.
