Current situation and efficiency in COVID-19 prevention and treatment in Vietnam, till September 2020

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections, caused by a new variant of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, were first detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019. By June 30, 2020, more than 200 countries /territories across the globe have recorded cases of the disease with more than 13 million people infected, more than 570,000 people died. On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 epidemic a global pandemic. Vietnam recorded the first COVID-19 case on January 23, 2020. Disease prevention and control activities of the health sector, all levels, sectors, and localities have been actively implemented and highly appreciated by the international community and local people. However, the epidemic continues to be complicated, with more cases of infection and a very high risk of epidemic spread. The article describes the evolution of COVID-19 in Vietnam, statistics the cases compared with other countries, and explores the role of the health sector in the prevention of infectious diseases. From there, providing scientific knowledge and ways to prevent diseases for people.
