Assessing the overall awareness of using building information modelling (BIM) in construction industry in Lam Dong.

Abstract

Currently, Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been considered an advanced technology and approach to overcome problems in the construction industry. BIM is the process of creating and using digital information models in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance stages of building. The main objective of this paper is to assess the overall awareness of engineers and architects of using BIM and to analyze the barriers while applicating BIM in Lam Dong. From the analysis results, the rate of researching and applying BIM was still low, and it was still new and underdeveloped in Lam Dong. Analysis and evaluation of barriers to BIM application in Lam Dong showed that the three most influential factors were: not enough trained human resources for using BIM; lack of procedures and BIM standards; afraid to change or haven't seen the benefits of BIM yet. The paper recommends that the relevant government departments, construction enterprises, architects, and engineers in Lam Dong need to pay attention to learn and promote BIM application in their projects.
