STUDIES ON THE LINK BETWEEN SELENIUM AND COVID-19

Abstract

Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), an acute respiratory syndrome caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was discovered in 2019. However, it spreads quickly and creates many dangerous strains affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide, with high mortality rates. Recent studies show that balancing and supplementing the body with nutrition determines the risk of contracting and recovering from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Selenium is one of the main trace elements needed by the body with many essential activities in supporting immunity, antioxidant and preventing viral infections, especially selenium in nano form. The review reveals several worldwide studies to date on the role of nano selenium in the fight against COVID-19. Thereby provides a rationale for future studies on selenium and nano selenium applied in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
