THE ROLE OF HOANG KE VIEM IN EARLY MODERN HISTORY OF VIETNAM

Abstract

The article introduces fundamental features of Hoang Ke Viem’s homeland, family and childhood, as well as focuses on clarifying his contributions to national history and culture in XIX century. On the other hand, with recently published documents, we decode the twist of Hoang Ke Viem’s life when he had to accept to be “An Phu agent” to recruit Can Vuong forces. Having used the method of approaching documents from the opposite sites, we would like to give objective judgement with the satisfaction the character of Hoang Ke Viem. He truly deserves to be honored as national cultural celebrity of Vietnam.
